Furnace Room Heater?

Can you imagine trusting a mechanical contractor you hired over Craig's list to install a room heater in your living room while you where at work? These people came home to a full sized furnace installed in their living room, all they wanted was a room heater. Can you imagine trying to watch TV as this furnace ramps up to heat your home? Now imagine that you paid him in FULL already!

 

I actually looked up the contractor who installed this furnace, he has no contractor license, he has no bond, he is not insured and on his proposal he asked the check to be made out in his personal name! Even though on his invoice he was clearly charging tax! Normally I would be the first in line to turn this contractor in, but the customer actually beat me to it.

PLEASE when hiring a contractor, do a little homework. And Don't do a Living Room Furnace

This Furnace Needed Replacing!

One of, if not the worst install I have seen in my entire career. I can not for the life of me figure out what the installer was thinking when he scabbed one system onto another system. He didn’t realize the air would be just going around in a circle!

How Did the System Work at All?

There was a Goodman heat pump system that had been operational, then someone installed the Coleman 90% furnace into that system, I can’t imagine how poorly this system operated. Off to the side of the mechanical room was a dead Lennox pulse as well. Seeing all the different equipment tells me there several times someone could have corrected this mess.

A Clean Slate

After digging in and removing all the junk, we finally could see a clear path forward. We installed an American Standard 95% efficiency single stage gas unit with a Honeywell F100 filter system. There is no doubt that not only will we deliver more air flow but at a higher efficiency. There will be far less leakage and better filtration.

When I first was called out by the bank on this Repo home I was asked to install a new gas furnace. When I got there I found no furnace, just everything that goes with it. Turned out the previous owner(contractor) took the furnace as well as all the appliances, deck and fence. Yes even the fence. The bank wanted a cheap price on a furnace. I really hate the word cheap.

I’m very thankful that the bank decided not to install a furnace, turned out the new owner of the home contacted me later. An American Standard 95% variable 2 stage was installed because he wanted a very quite and efficient furnace, the cheap 80% would not have done that. Unfortunately after the new furnace was in I could not get a clean picture, way to much duct in the way.
