Older York 80% Gas Furnace.
As you can see the existing York 80% furnace sits on a base can located in the garage. The weird part of the existing system was that the sheet rock came all the way down to the top of the furnace. It made for a little uncertainty when bidding but realistically you can pretty much tell how the ducting ran.
American Standard 95% Variable 2 Stage with Filter
After removing the existing furnace and part of the base can we cut the sheet rock up to allow for the new American Standard 95% 2 stage variable speed furnace, heat pump coil and Honeywell 4″ filter bank. By adding a heat pump coil at this point and time it allows my customer to add on a heat pump or AC at a later date without making major modifications to the existing ducting.

Our customer felt it was time to replace his existing Trane 80% furnace for something more efficient that also could make his home more comfortable for his family.

The new American Standard (manufacture of Trane) 95% fully modulating gas furnace is in my opinion the best furnace you can purchase in the industry today. Even though my favorite to install is the American Standard 95% 2 stage variable furnace, the fully modulating model is very impressive and quickly growing on me.

Even though you can not tell the physical differences between the two models you can defiantly tell the difference in performance. American Standard has a fully modulating gas valve with a variable speed blower. The communicating thermostat makes less than 1% adjustments in the gas valve to maintain setpoint and has real time adaptive intelligence. No more under or over shooting the thermostats setpoint…. makes for a very comfortable heating system.

Its not very often, but it does happen. A furnace installed in the wrong direction, well at least in my opinion its facing the wrong direction.

Here you see a RHEEM 80% gas furnace facing into the garage. As you can see theres a tool box pushed up against the front of the furnace which makes it very tough to change a filter, never mind servicing.

As you can see above we installed the new American Standard 95% 2 stage variable speed gas furnace 180 degrees from where it was originally. Giving the home owner and service technician easy access. We also added a Honeywell F100 filter bank into the return system for even better filtration system.

My newest customers just moved here from Florida only to find out both of their Payne 80% furnaces have cracked heat exchangers. This is not uncommon, in fact its rare not to find cracks in the heat exchangers of this particular brand/model of furnace.

The 2nd floor Payne 80% Furnace was an up-flow furnace. Meaning it blows the hot air upward into the attic where the heated air is delivered through ducts overhead into each the rooms.

As you can see above the new American Standard 95% 2 stage Variable speed furnace has a little larger foot print, some simple transitions helped us slip the new furnace right into place. A condensate pump was added to remove condensation and the venting changed to PVC.
1st Floor Payne 80% furnace
The 1st floor Payne 80% furnace was your typical down-flow furnace, blowing the hot air downward into the crawl space, then ducted to floor registers through out the home.

The new American Standard 95% 2 Stage Variable furnace again was a larger foot print, but a simple transition and new basecan made it very easy to slip into place. The venting changed to PVC and condensate line ran into the existing drain system.

This 90% Kenmore furnace has long out lived its life, my customer being a retired engineer was able to keep it going much longer than expected. The secondary heat exchangers where partially clogged making the furnace operate poorly and getting to the point of being a serious safety hazard.

There are not to many occasions when I get to meet the person who actually installed a furnace that IM replacing, my customer did a very good job installing the original furnace, but a good installation out lived its youthfulness in this case.
2 Stage American Standard Variable Speed Furnace
The new American Standard 95% 2 Stage Variable speed furnace slide right in to place. I had to make a simple supply transition to adapt to the existing supply duct, added a Honeywell F100 4″ pleated air filter system and then re-connect up to the existing venting and condensate. It doesn’t get much easier than this.

Once again I find myself replacing another Rheem furnace, this Rheem furnace was getting to costly to repair so my customer elected to upgrade to an American Standard 95% variable 2 speed furnace.
Going from an 80% furnace to a high efficient 95% furnace requires some modifications to the system. Primarily running a new PVC vent system and adding a drain system.

After meeting with my customer it was decided to install the new American Standard furnace 90 degrees. This would give the owner more room and make it easier for servicing down the road.

As you can see above by turning the furnace and sliding it to the left it really cleaned up the space. I had to modify the existing return air ducting to accept a new filter system, fab/install a new supply transition and add a condensate pump to the system because there was no floor drain available.

This 90% Whirpool furnace has seen its last days. It has actually been dead for some time now, the owner finally decided to install a new American Standard 95% Standard furnace.

This Whirpool furnace had an option of 2 different BTU inputs, something I have never seen before. But being a 90% furnace its was very easy to swap over to an 95% American Standard.

Outside of making a few sheet metal transitions this American Standard standard 95% furnace was very easy to install as well. And like the 2 stage variable … no factory issues.
