Every time I’m around an oil furnace it brings back memories of my dad, why he liked working on oil furnaces beats the hell out of me, but he did and he was very good at it. And even though I would go with him call after call learning what I could I never fell in love with it. I just don’t understand why someone could look past the oil smell that stayed on you all day, the stained clothes or the soot that gets everywhere including in your lungs.
Existing Oil Furnace
This oil furnace was doomed the minute the new owner of this home took over, it was just a matter of time. She knew she wanted it gone but what to replace it with? She ended up deciding on installing an American Standard air handler with a heat pump coil. This will eliminate being slaved to a oil tank and get her one step closer to a American Standard Heat Pump.
New American Standard Air Handler
With a few duct changes the new American Standard air handler slipped right in to place. I also added a Honeywell F100 filter system that will make it easier to change the filter. In the future when my customer is ready she can add the Heat Pump and really start saving money.

Every ductless mini-split manufacture has its own models that have very unique features …. Here we installed some LG Art Cool Mirror indoor wall units and heat pump, and its because of the dark mirrors on the faces of these units that help sell the project.
My customer had a underground duct system that supplied heat to both his indoor pool area as well as 1000 sq ft of their home. The system was poorly installed and recently collapsed because of a pump failure that caused underground duct flooding.

Above you see the new outdoor LG heat Pump installed on a flat roof, we ran 2 line sets from the outdoor Heat Pump to the indoor air handlers. I’m always surprised how quiet these units are.

The down stairs LG air handler was installed just above the existing windows, this was obviously the best location for performance and aesthetics. I have to admit these mirror finished units are truly stunning.

The upstairs LG unit serves the master bedroom, fortunately not only are these units very good looking they are very quiet as well. The only complaint my customer had about these units was the bright display light … and of coarse those are adjustable. 🙂

Sometimes everything just goes real smooth, this was one of those jobs.
This customer belongs to a local church where several American Standard furnaces, heat pump and a Navien tankless heater where installed. He liked what was done for the church and wanted an air conditioner installed for him as well. Of coarse anyone asking for AC will more than likely switch to a HP once they see the benefits.
Existing Furnace
He kept the existing Trane furnace because its not that old and has plenty of blower power for a American Standard heat pump add on. In most add on cases you simply remove the old furnace, install the coil and re-install the existing furnace.
New American Standard Coil
Here you see the new American Standard cased coil installed under the existing furnace and a new Honeywell F100 filter bank installed in the return air above it. Once the coil is installed a refer line set is ran from the indoor coil to the outdoor heat pump followed by a drain line.

The American Standard 13 Seer Heat Pump installed next to the garage, I have never seen a home or business that its colors does not match the American Standards heat pump.

This heat Pump was kinda a head scratcher for me, not because the Carrier Heat Pump we replaced was only 10 years old, but the company that put this in is usually very customer orientated and for some reason let this one fall to the way side. The customer had been having issues with the system since day 1, and for some reason this company could not fix the problem. Maybe the technicians that had been coming out every year after year trying to remedy the problem did not understand air flow …or maybe the head office did not want the burden of dealing with the real problem. Never the less they lost a customer!
Existing Carrier Air Handler
I must apologize for the picture above, I forgot my camera so I must resort to a picture my technician took when we he was called out. Everything he found on the system suggested they where trying workarounds, meaning not dealing with the real issue. The real issue being lack of airflow, the system could not deliver the air needed for the heat pump.
New American Standard Heat Pump
The solution above, an American Standard variable speed air handler. Even though the existing air handler was rated for the job, it could not push the air needed through the existing ducting. BUT this air handler is designed to do just that.
New American Standard Heat Pump
The American Standard heat Pump above is a perfect match for the indoor handler and existing home. The existing refer lines where flushed clean to switch over to the R410a refrigerant.
